Her obvious empathy and caring for us was evident in each interaction we had with her during her shift.
On Friday my husband was taken by ambulance to the emergency room in La Crosse WI for a suspected stroke. He was transported from the Mayo Onalaska clinic to the ER. The ER was busy that day, yet everyone made us feel like we were their only patient. Kathleen Roush was his nurse and during our conversations I mentioned I was a retired nurse myself. Kathy believed it was very important for me to be in the room when my husband was seen by the neurologist. At the time, we were in the cafeteria getting a bite to eat as my husband had been taken for a 2 pm MRI, and he returned before we returned from the cafeteria. The neurologist was evaluating him at the time. Kathy took it upon herself to come to the cafeteria to get me; she said I needed to be able to talk to the neurologist. Plus, she brought a wheelchair, because I walk slowly due to a previous ankle injury (and the subsequent surgical repair). She whisked me back to the room; thus, I was able to talk with the neurologist. Kathy went above and beyond for me and my husband. Her obvious empathy and caring for us was evident in each interaction we had with her during her shift. Thankfully, my husband hadn't had a stroke or TIA. Truthfully, everyone on duty that day both in the Onalaska clinic and in the ER deserves recognition.
