Our son, was born 3 months early and weighed 1.0 lb. at birth. During our 4 months in NICU, we have seen many nurses and Nurse Kathy Scheidt is the most consistent and compassionate nurse we could have imagined. Very early on, when J was very sick, Kathy stepped up and requested to his primary nurse. She is a key piece of the team that makes life and death decisions every day. Kathy does it with integrity and respect for the team, while advocating for J and the desires/questions/uncertainties of his weary parents. She has been a resource, confidante and friend to J and me, depending on where we are in this roller coaster ride. Most of all, Kathy takes time to educate and assist our family and friends when they come to visit us and our son. She is especially caring and patient with J's 4-year-old sister who says Kathy is her favorite nurse.
