I have noticed an admirable trend, over the years, of excellence in care by Kathy. But this week, I overheard a patient's family and the patient as well, thank Kathy for her compassionate care and very kind interest in their mother. The daughter several times said, "you were so kind," "you treated our mom with the best respect. You were the best nurse while she has been here."
Also, this day, we had another patient who was someone most nurses would just do the bare minimum for, but not Kathy. She treated them like they were her family, kind and respectful. Kathy spent time in the patient's room listening to the patient and even helping the family.
A few months ago, a long-term patient on 3 North, who was in isolation, always asked if Kathy was going to be her nurse. I watched Kathy visit and make the lady feel very special. The patient told me, "Kathy is my favorite and she is always so kind." I believe kindness doesn't leave a scar and this is how Kathy treats everyone she comes into contact with. Kathy is extraordinary, kind, and a caring nurse on a daily basis.
There are many more incidents I could list, but this is just a start.
