I have had the pleasure of interacting with Kathy as both a nurse and just recently as a patient when I gave birth to my daughter here at Kettering. I was hired at KMC L&D as a new RN and it was evident that Kathy wanted me to succeed. It can be overwhelming going into a new career field and I felt as a nurse, Kathy equipped me with the necessary tools to be confident as a nurse on the unit. Now that I have been a nurse for almost two years, it continues to be evident that Kathy is passionate about her job as an RN. I have witnessed her advocate for her patients countless times and she is always more than willing to help others on the unit.
Kathy was my nurse during my recent delivery with my second child. It can be quite nerve-racking going into the hospital, especially in a field that you work and see less than ideal situations. I had a fairly complicated delivery with my first child, so I was a bit nervous coming in with my second delivery. She was more than willing to answer questions and include my family members and me in our care. My baby kept having decelerations in heart rate and as an L& D nurse, it can be hard to not "watch the monitor". However, I fully trusted Kathy with my care and I knew she would make appropriate decisions. I was able to just be the patient. Kettering Medical Center is lucky to have Kathy as a nurse, here in L&D.
Kathy is a wonderful nurse to work alongside. She is respectful and dependable. I now get to see her precept another new RN and am reminded of how important it is to have people like her to work with. It is people like Kathy who hold the unit together, especially in some of the most trying times. I am privileged to have had the foundation of my career begin with her and have had such a personal experience in my life shared with her. Thank you, Kathy.
