Not only does Kathy make sure she understands a patient’s chart and medical history, but she also spends time at the bedside to really get to know the patients she’s caring for – their preferences, their psychosocial needs, what specific questions and concerns they have about their care, etc.
Kathy is an outstanding role model. She is caring, compassionate, kind, empathetic, intelligent, patient, and responsive to the needs of both patients and her colleagues. Kathy consistently provides skilled, compassionate care to her patients every day. She goes above and beyond for the patients she cares for on a daily basis. Not only does Kathy make sure she understands a patient’s chart and medical history, but she also spends time at the bedside to really get to know the patients she’s caring for – their preferences, their psychosocial needs, what specific questions and concerns they have about their care, etc. When giving updates to other charge nurses, she is succinct, but her depth of knowledge about each patient is amazing. She is such a great advocate for her patients. When it comes time for a patient to discharge, Kathy makes sure all concerns have been addressed and the patient is set up to be successful outside of the hospital. She is very thorough in her discharge teaching. She is not afraid to bring up any concerns she may have about a patient with the rest of the medical team. She will speak up if something feels unsafe or doesn’t seem right. Kathy is such a clinical wealth of knowledge. She has very strong clinical skills and is recognized as a resource to everyone. Not only is Kathy a strong patient advocate, but she is also supportive of other staff on 4SE. Whether Kathy is precepting a new nurse on 4SE or the charge nurse, she is always happy to assist with a task or help answer questions. Kathy is also often known to go out of her way to complete acts of kindness for her colleagues. Kathy is cherished and respected by both the patients she cares for and the staff that she works with.
