By supporting her team, Katie has been successful in ensuring that patients receive the best care possible.
ENGAGE through collaboration and communication: Katie is an excellent leader for the CRU that continuously keeps her staff engaged. Keeping the staff members up to date in real-time is important to her to help keep all of the staff updated on changes and adjustments made that will affect us directly. Katie exemplifies the term collaboration between all of the leadership at LGH. Each department throughout the hospital has worked with Katie on a variety of projects; whether it be the physical construction of a new unit, the installation of new equipment and services, or opening a pop-up unit to help patients receive nursing care in non-conventional spaces. Katie collaborates and communicates with other nursing departments and service lines to always help meet patients’ needs.
EMPOWER our team members: Katie is always supportive of her staff and their growth. Facilitating and engaging in conversations with staff members on where they see their future in nursing with LGH is something that all of the staff members are open and honest about. The support that Katie provides to her robust team is obvious in the success of the team. She leads by example, always being kind, honest, and fair. Her team is successful and has strong charge nurses, preceptors, and an abundance of DAISY and Petal Winners. The support that she shows her team even behind the scenes is something to cheer about.
EXECUTE results: Since Katie is the nursing office leader, she wears a lot of hats and completes a lot of tasks outside of the strict realm of nursing. She is flexible and is always willing to go the extra mile to make sure that the nursing office staff are supported and encouraged to do their best to ensure patient safety. Since inheriting the responsibility of managing all things agency, Katie has organized to help LGH maintain its successful patient care delivery model by welcoming top agency talent to the organization. She helps keep these team members accountable so that quality patient care continues during staffing challenges. With her leadership and calculations, she has helped regulate spending control for the organization.
TRANSFORM our Culture: Katie as a nurse leader regularly includes and encourages the staff in our monthly staff meetings to participate and bring forward potential opportunities that can help patient safety and outcomes. Rounding with patients at the bedside is something that we see Katie doing which helps our patients see that we have support from our leaders and that they are also engaged in their care. By supporting her team, Katie has been successful in ensuring that patients receive the best care possible. Her management of holding team members accountable while allowing them to be independent sets the expectations for others to strive for in a productive team.
