Kayla is truly an angel in disguise. She is so passionate and caring not only for her patients but for our family as well.
It was the hardest week I’ve ever had. My brother was placed on life support. The staff in the ICU was amazing, but Kayla stuck out. During these 5 days, the nurses were wonderful, but Kayla, you are so caring, compassionate, and truly a beautiful soul. Being a nurse is truly Kayla’s calling. I know it was a crazy week on that floor, but she always made sure my brother was comfortable and made sure his family was doing good. Kayla is truly an angel in disguise. She is so passionate and caring not only for her patients but for our family as well. I really want her to be recognized! My family and I could not have asked for better care for my brother and his situation.
Kayla made an impression on this family that will impact them for the rest of their lives. UPMC is lucky to have such a dedicated nurse as Kayla. In the end, I had to make the decision on life support. Kayla didn’t have to say a word. I could see in her eyes and her heart that she was there for us. I came back and was spending the night when my brother passed. But Kayla was so attentive to me, she made sure I was comfortable with pillow blankets and a drink. I fell asleep, and that’s when my brother passed. It was her that woke me and told me my brother was gone. She truly cares about people. She spent a little time with me and then told me to take as long as I needed.
Kayla deserves this award and so much more. With the way our world is, people not caring about others, but not in this situation, Kayla was top-notch. She loves her job, and she loves her patients and families. I’m thankful she was my brother’s nurse. She made a very difficult week doable. Kayla, you are top-notch, our hospital and community are lucky to have you. Keep that smile and love for what you are doing. Thank you!
