Kelli Dela Cruz embodies the meaning of care and compassion in nursing. Kelli began her nursing career on 4main in 2017 after practicing as an LPN/RN from the state of Washington. During Kelli's interview, she was asked what was drawing her to become a surgical oncology nurse. Kelli stated that she wanted to help patients with cancer. As a nurse of 3 years, Kelli has gone above and beyond her original intent of just helping our patients on 4main with cancer diagnoses. She has been recognized by both our patients and surgeons on 4main for her thorough care and commitment to her patient's wellbeing. Kelli strength in her nursing practice and compassion for the surgical oncology patient population has translated into positive patient experiences. Kelli consistently provides her patients with a polite, pleasant, and professional demeanor. She is a nurse who spends time with each of her patients, actively listens to their needs, and doesn't give up until her patient is comfortable.
Kelli utilizes her care and compassion to critically think through difficult patient situations to help and assist her patients in the best possible way. She is innovative and creative in her approach to patient issues and concerns. She goes above and beyond to ensure her patients are well cared for and comfortable during her shift. A patient Kelli cared for on 4main provided this positive recognition regarding Kelli's care:
"I do have a nurse who cared for me during my stay at the hospital who deserves some recognition: Kelli Dela Cruz. She was so helpful and empathetic in trying to find ways to help me relieve the pressure that was building up with my catheter situation. I was literally crying with pain. She went into the bathroom with me and while I was sitting on the toilet, she just kept maneuvering the catheter to try to get out the urine I was retaining. It worked and I was so thankful. She is a wonderful nurse and she has such a nice way with her patients. I just wanted you to know that. I'm thankful for her!!"

"Kelli is kind and compassionate every time. I had a problem and she figured out how to fix it. For example, my nephrostomy bag had a problem with the shut-off valve she found me another one- when the Velcro was chaffing, she devised a covering with gauze and tape to make it more comfortable. She never hesitated to come up with a novel solution to my problems. She listens closely and takes added time to make things right and reassure me. She cheered me on for every step of my recovery from getting the NG tube taken out to adding a lap to my daily strolls. She is an exceptional nurse and caring person."
Kelli consistently has a positive attitude and demeanor during her shift. She is often recognized by her peers for her assistive nature and the teamwork she promotes. Kelli promotes an environment of dignity and respect on 4main and serves as a leader amongst the nursing staff for promoting this. For these reasons and more, Kelli is a DAISY Nurse.
