She consistently goes above and beyond to champion the rights and well-being of her patients, advocating for their needs and promoting a patient-centered approach within our system.
"I am Professional" - How has the nominee created innovative environments for the achievement of exceptional outcomes while advancing and contributing to the profession? Kim has helped develop an orientation schedule for newly hired nurses. This has been very helpful for all involved to know what daily expectations are for the preceptor, orientee, co-workers, and nursing supervisors.
"I am an Advocate" How has this nominee supported other nurses throughout their nursing career? Kim has oriented numerous new nurses over the years. She has a kind and gentle way with others, yet corrects when needed.
Kim has been a great role model and friend to work with on my weekends. She's always there for me if I have questions. She also is so great with the patients and their families, always looking out for them and advocating for them when needed.
Kim has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to patient advocacy throughout the 7 years I have known her. Her efforts to ensure the highest quality of care for patients has not only positively impacted individual lives but also the friends and family members of her patients. She consistently goes above and beyond to champion the rights and well-being of her patients, advocating for their needs and promoting a patient-centered approach within our system.
"I am a Partner" How has this nominee partnered with patients, families, customers and colleagues to provide exceptional care and service throughout their career? Kim has a passion for patients with dementia and their families. She experienced what it is like to travel the road of dementia with her own mother who had this disease and then eventually passed away. Kim spends extra time with care givers and offers compassion and support to them.
Kim has helped to shape and grow our nursing community through her input into raising awareness of potential safety issues, ways we can promote improved patient-centered care, advancing our orientation guidelines, and her compassionate care of her patients. She has partnered with our Doctors, Care Managers, Care Partners, Nurses, Supervisors and Therapy departments to provide care that goes above and beyond the basics of what we do as Nurses.
"I am Accountable" How has this nominee taken accountability for achieving outcomes? Kim takes ownership in her work routine. If a patient has pain that is not being controlled, she collaborates with the patient and provider until the pain is under control. If someone is discharged, she makes sure all questions are answered and that new prescriptions and/or medical equipment is easily available to the patient.
Kim goes above and beyond for her patients. One example is when she found a closer specialist in our own system sooner than having the patient drive to UW to get his MRI done.
"I am a Leader" How has this nominee implemented our Mission within their team, their department, their ministry, and the community? Kim has been a Med/Surg nurse at WMH for 33+ years. She has a wide range of knowledge and experience that she shares with her peers.
As a nursing professional, Kim has exhibited leadership skills in various capacities. Whether leading new nurses in orientation to be the best they can be both as a nurse and for their patients, faithful attendance to our local Medical Surgical Council, or sharing her knowledge with fellow health-care professionals, she consistently demonstrates an ability to inspire and guide others toward achieving excellent patient care.
Describe how your nominee is exceptional and deserves this award in 700 words or less. Kim has worked at WMH for 33+ years. I have known her for 30 of these years. She was one of the first persons to train and orientate me. It was a great experience. The examples above are why Kim should receive this award. She has a true heart for nursing.
