Kourtney is special to our department in many ways. She stepped up as a charge nurse over the last year, and it's been inspiring to see her grow. I am nominating her for this award because of the exponential way she cared for a patient and ran a cardiac arrest. I was the charge nurse on Christmas Day this year. When we received the call that the cardiac arrest was coming in, I asked that she take the patient. She immediately said yes without hesitation and assigned roles to the team. She displayed such strong leadership qualities during the 6+ hours that we cared for this patient, including continuing ACLS protocols while I stepped out with the physician to speak with the family and directing the rest of the team when we needed additional supplies or medications. This particular case continued in areas outside our department (radiology and on the transport ambulance). This could have created chaos very easily, but she remained calm and continued to direct the team. She was caring and compassionate with the family and advocated for the patient. I always enjoy working with Kourtney because she helps in whatever capacity possible, but I was extremely impressed and proud to call her my teammate that day. She is the epitome of a DAISY Nurse.
