Our world was turned upside down when our son who is three years old was diagnosed with Large B Cell Lymphoma. Several days prior to his diagnosis, he had emergency surgery at Children's to remove a mass from his small bowel which was causing a small bowel obstruction. Then my child was admitted back at Children's for port placement, bone marrow biopsy, LP, CT scans, PET scans, and Echocardiogram to see the extent of his disease. My wife and I had the privilege of having Lacey as our son's RN the first night post all his tests, scans, etc. It's hard to put into words how thankful we are to the Lord Jesus Christ that he placed her in our lives that night. She immediately made my child and us feel comfortable by her compassion, caring heart, and knowledge. My son took to her almost right away and gave her a special name. It was in reference to a YouTube video he watches and the Playmobil toy he has. This, of course, endeared her to my wife and me even more. She is the epitome of what an RN who works with children and especially with cancer should be and aspire to be. What is clearly evident with her is her love and compassion for children, and what I believe is a true calling from God himself. When she would walk in or if my son saw her, he would smile only the way a child can when he sees someone he truly loves. Seeing that and other things that she did that made our stay just a little easier and comforting. We had exceptional care by all the staff on 8 QB but she to us is and always will be our favorite. She is a true gift from God to kids and their families going through the burdensome road of cancer.
