We brought a patient to the OR for a VP shunt placement. Patient had a history of myelomeningocele s/p repair and was only 5 weeks old. Upon arrival to the OR Lauren noticed the baby's abdomen was extremely hard. She immediately notified the Neurology resident and discovered the baby's bladder was full. She emptied the baby's balder so we could proceed with the procedure. She then consulted with Dr. H and discovered that the baby had not been consulted by Urology. The consult was then ordered and the baby was found to have a neurogenic bladder. Great discovery Lauren! Way to go above and beyond for your patients.
