Laurie Spofford, RN consistently provides outstanding care for our patients on Rehabilitation. Multiple patients compliment and appreciate her nursing cares and describe her as a compassionate person. As a new nurse, Laurie always took care to check and double check what was the best course of action for her patients' care. Now she continues to ask for guidance and advice in appropriate ways for best outcomes. We cannot think of one time she ever became stressed or reacted negatively! Laurie is a constant source of support and positivity for her peers and patients. Her patients always appreciate how she goes above expectations to schedule follow up appointments and go over discharge meds in great detail so they understand everything they need. She works hard to do discharge planning and case management for her subacute patients. She can be anyone (SA, RN, etc.), she will toilet any patient, she will jump in and give meds for her coworkers. She volunteers to cover meds for coworkers when we get behind, even when she's not charge nurse. As a nursing team leader, she is not required to float. However, she recognizes burnout in fellow staff and volunteers to float even though she doesn't have to. She has also maintained collegial and warm friendships with all staff, not just nursing. Laurie functions as a team lead nurse, charge nurse, and primary preceptor for new hires. She is the epitome of what a nurse should aspire to become: compassionate, sensitive, proactive, mentoring, encouraging, and incredibly detail oriented. We will miss Laurie when she leaves for ORMS/SC!
