I have to let you know that Leanne had a very difficult day yesterday and she was amazing. We both know she is grieving the loss of her mother and I am blown away by the care and compassion she was able to provide to several challenging patients. She and I joked a little in the back room because every one of her patients was incontinent and very messy. Her kindness and compassion was clear in dealing with every one of these people, every time she had to clean them up. I understand that is the expectation and the only accepted level of care but you and I both know that this isn't always the case.
I also want to tell you about her care of a particularly challenging man. He came in to the ED in clothes he said he had been wearing for 2 months. It appears he had been incontinent of urine and stool for at least that long. He was the dirtiest patient I have ever seen. She was so gentle and kind to this man. She treated him like he was the only person in the ED. Maintaining his dignity and cleaning him was clearly very important to both of them. Her care of this extremely vulnerable man was inspiring and one of the many reasons I truly love working here.
There are some really incredible nurses on your team and, in my opinion, Leanne is one of them.
