Leilani Schabell consistently provides exceptional and compassionate care to her patients and is always an advocate for them and their family members. Countless times I have witnessed her be the real-life angel, gently caring for our most sick patients.
Recently, Leilani was caring for a chronically and terminally ill young man who required full assistance with repositioning and could not find comfort. Leilani stayed with him at his bedside all day patiently and kindly repositioning him every several minutes, holding his hand, providing him with comforting words, and frequent massages. She supported the patient's young wife at the bedside by continually updating her with his plan of care and being a sounding board for her to express her fears and feelings of uncertainty and loss.
Leilani persistently advocated to the doctors to help him receive the appropriate medications to relieve him of some of his pain. This is only one of many times I have watched her in awe of her amazing humanity. She is 100% of the time putting her patient and patient's family members before her needs and going above and beyond the call of duty of a typical nurse. She is a role model in the nursing profession. Not only does Leilani provide excellent knowledge, skills, and compassion at the bedside, she also shares her devotion and knowledge as a teacher to student nurses as a clinical instructor at the local university.
