Fortunate are the patients and families who have Lisa Tufts as their nurse. From her early days as a new graduate, to present times, Lisa has been a caring, dedicated nurse to her patients. She sets high standards for the care she gives, and her patients feel secure in her care. Despite stressful days or difficult cases, especially during COVID, Lisa came to work on the night shift with enthusiasm and a positive attitude "can-do" attitude.
Being sick and hospitalized is difficult for a child or adolescent. Lisa comforts them with her gentleness, humor, and competency. Parents feel safe leaving their children knowing Lisa is there. She goes the "extra mile." Examples of this are:
I have seen her care for a newly paralyzed teenage boy. She was sensitive to his need for some control, his need to grieve, and his need to be treated with dignity, despite his loss of many bodily functions.
I have seen Lisa beautifully support a teen with Cystic Fibrosis, whose life had been diminished by his chronic illness. Lisa was able to cheer him on and make him feel good about himself.
Lisa supports her peers and is a positive team member. She advocates for her patients and peers on the unit. She feels deeply about the patients in her care and has learned effective ways of coping and dealing with the stress of caring, which has enabled her to work at MGH Pediatrics for over 20 years. Lisa and I were peers on Ellison 18 before I retired. I think of her practice as "exemplary.” I would want her as my nurse if I were sick.
