Liza is one of our greatest nurses in the ICU. She lives JPS's mission and vision with every person that walks on the unit. She is always positive and uplifts her coworkers and our patients. I receive high praise from her patients every time I round. Her smile, kind touch and her impressive clinical knowledge makes our patients feel like they are receiving the best care anyone could provide.
Last week, a young man was in a terrible motorcycle accident and was not wearing a helmet. His prognosis was poor and started to go into multi-organ failure. As his systems shut down, and the family was given the bad news. I observed Liza as she stayed with the mom and held her hand as she cried. Liza was so comforting to this mother during this difficult time. She assured the mother that every person in the ICU, including the physicians, nurses and even down to the house keepers were going to do everything in their power to care for her son. The mother later expressed to me how this impacted her. She stated that she truly felt that everyone in the ICU was a part of her son's care, dedicated to providing excellent care and really cared about her son's outcome. She also stated that she would tell her son's story to every person she met to enhance the community's view of JPS.
Her son, who many thought would not make it, is now starting rehab! Truly amazing.
