She has been a good advocate of our son’s care as well when she believed that there are things need to be done for him or not appropriate for him depending on the circumstances.
Liz has delivered a credible amount of comfort to my wife and I during the most difficult time of our lives. She has shown great care for our newborn son, and we could not be more thankful. She has been straight forward, honest, kind, and compassionate. I would trust Liz with my child any day. She stops to check on our son every shift. She truly shows that she cares. I would like thank nurse Liz Edson for the extraordinary care she has done for our little boy in the NICU, for the consideration she showed to me and my husband, and for her devotion to work at Bronson Methodist Hospital. The first time we met nurse Liz was when our son was very very sick. At that time, we thought about not seeing him anymore, and that our joy of becoming parents would end soon. At that moment, nurse Liz was assigned to take care of our little boy during the night shift. Just at the very first contact with her, a hopeful feeling started to rise slowly in me and my husband as she introduced herself to us followed with an assurance to give the best care she could ever do for our son by communicating to us the detailed planning of our son’s care. Not only did she take care of our son, but she also made possible for me and my husband to spend more time with our son that night. She took an extra step for us when she offered us one room at the hospital to stay so that we could see our son anytime during the night. She made every second, every minute, and every hour that night count to me, to my husband and to our son. Thankfully, our son miraculously recovered from his illness, and we have had many more opportunities to have nurse Liz take care for our son at the hospital. Being at the hospital every day until night, I have been able to observe another extra point in nurse Liz: she accomplishes her job meticulously. She never missed to swipe clean all surfaces in our son’s room, his isolette and his crib. She was the first I saw cleaning the feeding tube of our son. She always changes the linens of my son every time she takes cares of him. She makes sure he is comfortable in his little bed. These may seem small, but to me it has extra meaning. Furthermore, another good point I have found in nurse Liz is her willingness to help, teach and explain when my husband and I have questions or don’t understand some things. She has been successful in relaying our concerns to other care team (following nurse, nurse practitioners, doctors, respiratory therapists), and she has good communication skills in explaining the care plan for our son. She has been a good advocate of our son’s care as well when she believed that there are things need to be done for him or not appropriate for him depending on the circumstances. Besides, as human beings we feel weak and overwhelmed sometimes when facing frightening situations, and many times I have felt the same at our son’s bedside. But I never felt alone at the hospital because of the good support of the people there, and nurse Liz is one of them. I have seen that she has an empathy for the parents and children she took care of, as she gave hugs and kind words of encouragement in one of those frightening moments. Lastly, I would never be grateful enough to nurse Liz for the excellent job she is doing in the NICU, and for her courage to take extra steps for the good of our son. THANK YOU NURSE LIZ EDSON!
