Lynelle Witt has been with the unit for about 15 years now and she is the true definition of a nightingale nurse. She is an inspiration to all who cross her path however, her greatest attribute to nursing is her exemplary compassion.
For example, we had a patient who had an extensive stent in the ICU. The patient was notably depressed and tired of constant tests and procedures with no end in sight. Lynelle took the time to not just talk to the patient but listen to the patient. She found that the patient enjoyed riding his automatic wheel chair outside and more than anything wanted to taste the foods he was so accustomed to in his neighborhood. After a busy weekend and a long 12-hour shift, Lynelle went and purchased the patient's favorite food and drinks with her own money and brought them back up to the hospital. It was amazing to watch the patient's spirit lift. He was beyond happy and all he could talk about was how wonderful she was for spending her money on him. Stories like this are not uncommon for Lynelle.
I could probably write of at least 10 more similar instances within the short 6 years of knowing Ms. Witt. She has multiple Service First nominations and patients and their family always remember her by name. Her compassion shines throughout the unit and no doubt she makes 6E a better place. She constantly goes above her call of duty and there is no one else more deserving of this award.
