Lyse Roy deserves recognition for her excellent critical care skills, her compassion and her extraordinary acts in caring for one of our own in the ICU!
Recently, I had a fall that resulted in skull fractures and a severe traumatic brain injury with many complications. Lyse was about to leave after her shift on the day I was admitted and she heard the news. She accepted immediately the assignment of being my nurse the next day and every day she was on during my stay. My family and I would agree that Lyse is an exceptional Nurse. She is such a special person. She began her focus on me and my family right away. She spent so much time in my room expertly assessing my status, updating the physicians, and supporting my family through their difficult time. Lyse was focused on my care; this included bathing, turning, teaching my family anything they could be included in, braiding my hair, supplying me with shampoo and items to help with my care, and being my advocate.
My family was grateful for Lyse's care, time and compassion for all of us. She is the role model for all critical care nurses and so passionate about life. Lyse did not stopped caring for me after my discharge from ICU, but came to Boston while I was in Rehab and came to my house after I got home to check on me. She also gave my family her contact information for any of their questions or concerns even if she was off that day. I am so proud to call Lyse my friend and thankful to have had her as my special nurse during my stay. I am also grateful that my family had her to rely on as she made a difference in saving my life.
Every day Lyse makes a difference in so many ways.

I have had the pleasure and privilege to work with Lyse for over 25 years and consider her one of the best nurses that I have known. Lyse has a passion and energy towards nursing that is not only evident in her day to day nursing care, it is also evident as she mentors other nurses. I have had the wonderful opportunity to watch Lyse grow into a great critical care nurse as well as a strong advocate for patients and families. Lyse works in an environment that can be demanding - driven by technology, numbers, and timely assessments, often not leaving much time for the family and patient to receive comfort and teaching. This in my view is difficult to do, but Lyse does it amazingly well.
Through all of her endeavors and goals, Lyse strives to keep up with best practice and her desire to improve the care patients receive is evident in all that she does. Lyse consistently displays compassion, patient and family focused care, patient advocacy, support of all members of the healthcare team and critical thinking. She serves as a role model for the nursing profession.
We honor her for her success as a nurse, and for her exemplary care of a colleague!
