My mom trusted Maggie, at one moment she held Maggie’s hand and told her “you are amazing, thank you.”
Maggie worked in the emergency department recently. She took care of my mother during this shift. My mom had stage 4 squamous cell carcinoma in her bones, and one night she was unable to breathe. My father and I took her to the ER at Aurora Grafton’s Medical Center, to find out that she had pneumonia and severe sepsis. Maggie was beyond compassionate. She provided my mom with the most holistic care. My 15-year-old brother came to the hospital as well, so the three of us sat in a dark emergency room and watched my mom’s body give up its fight. The room itself was very uncomfortable, but Maggie consistently did whatever she could to make us more comfortable. She even got a recliner in the room, so my dad could sleep right next to my mom. She brought us a coffee cart full of snacks and drinks. She spoke gently with my mother, she granted all of our wishes, and she did everything in her power to ensure that my mom was pain-free. My mom was unable to move without screaming, even in the comfort of her own home, and Maggie finally made her comfortable. She helped us transfer to a phenomenal hospice facility, where my mom then passed away days later. My mom trusted Maggie, at one moment she held Maggie’s hand and told her “you are amazing, thank you.” My family and I trusted Maggie. She stayed an extra four hours that night to be with us. No amount of words can thank Maggie for the care she provided my mom and us. I am a nursing student myself, so my expectations are pretty high. Maggie went above and beyond them. She is an angel and needs to be recognized for the amazing nurse she is. I do this for my mom because I know she would be doing this if she was still here.
