Maria was caring for one of her patients who had metastatic CA and chemo ongoing. On the first day, Maria was trying to make her feel better by getting her out of bed to the chair and cleaned up. She was going to help her with her hair which in the ICU sometimes is not the first priority. Also being on chemo the patient was understandably upset about losing her hair and wanted something to be done if at all possible. That night Maria was thinking about it at home and decided to speak to the patient's daughter the next day about getting the patient's normal hairdresser in to do a shave if the patient wanted. So, the next day Maria called the daughter but being Sunday the patient's hair dressed could not be reached. Maria didn't accept that and called her own personal friend and hairdresser to come. The patient and daughter were so pleased about this gesture and Dr. S even expressed overwhelming gratitude. Maria paid out of her own pocket for this as well. The hairdresser didn't want to accept but she paid anyway.
