Maria was recognized by her peers and patients for her above and beyond actions with patients and families. In the psychiatric setting, there is little visitation time and families rely on the nurse for communication and assurance about their loved ones' progress and safety. Maria takes the time to assure families and help their loved ones to communicate with them. Patients voiced being grateful for this, as well as her moment to moment cheery attitude and how it lifted them from dark moments.
