It has been two weeks since my husband was released from Overlook Hospital unit 6C. He was recovering from bowel resection. Although a successful surgery, my husband experienced some setbacks and needed gastric suction 3 days after surgery. Needless to say, my husband was miserable, unable to eat or drink and was tethered to the suction device.
I would like to recognize Maria Veloso for extraordinary service. She came to my husband's rescue whenever needed. She went over and above when it came to his care in so many ways. Here are just a few ways that stand out:
I was going to give my husband a sponge bath and she made sure we had hot water (the bathroom sink in his room did not have hot water). In addition to getting us hot water, she set up the chair properly for him, gave us a dry shampoo cap, clean towels and washcloths and assisted if needed.
My husband was beginning to have an anxiety attack and she followed up with the proper channels to get him the proper medications to help his anxiety.
She provided reassurance to me with regards to his treatment concerning the stomach pump and general help. At one time, my husband began to vomit black bile with the pump, she remained calm took care of him and contacted a doctor immediately.
She informed the doctor immediately of any concerns we may have had.
She always would stop in with a smile, she even checked up on him over the weekend when she was not at work.
Maria went over and above his entire stay and we appreciate her extraordinary care.
