We were not “just” another family to Marin. She treated our mother like her own mother, with love and care.
To say we were impressed with Marin is an understatement. Our mother was diagnosed with an incurable tumor. She (Marin) educated us on the basics of Palliative Care in a way that we could understand. Our family loved many attributes of her approach, but here are a few of the most notable:
Compassion: We were not “just” another family to Marin. She treated our mother like her own mother, with love and care. She understood her needs and personality very quickly. An extremely good listener to both mom and us.
Knowledge: We respected Marin almost instantly. No one in our family is in the medical field, but it was very easy to understand her perspective. When we passed along her opinions to friends, with more medical knowledge than us, they were immediately impressed.
Partnership: Marin clearly has the respect of her colleagues. I witnessed her on numerous occasions partner with them on Mom’s needs. I called her twice expressing my disappointment with mom’s care through the night, ie. lack of medications, lack of moving her, etc…. Marin was very respectful, but firm with the staff when sharing my concerns. Marin asked questions of the nurses prior to imposing any judgment. I could tell they responded well.
Reliable: Marin followed through on every promise to my mom and our family about food, researching hospice, coming back on her rounds, etc…. At times, we felt she was 100% dedicated only to us, but we knew she had other patients. This has been of the hardest weeks we have been through as a family, but Marin made it tolerable. We cannot imagine having gone through this without her. We absolutely love Marin and only have known her for a week. That hopefully says a lot about how we feel. Marin = Angel on Earth.
