One day I had the privilege of being in the presence of RN Case Manager, Marjorie Rockett. We both arrived at the facility for our visits. My first patient was surrounded by her children and they were looking to speak with the RN Case Manager regarding the patient's unexpected expressions of pain and sadness. As I searched for her, I found her in a facility POC team meeting regarding another hospice patient. As I passed on the concern, she acknowledged being aware. When I returned, the family had already gotten her recommendations of care. Minutes later, Marjorie arrived and quickly noted that the patient needed to be returned to bed with oxygen. I stayed with the family and noted that patient was more relaxed and no longer voicing her discomfort. All of this took less than 15 minutes. Maybe this is no surprise to the medical team, but I was more aware of the pain in the faces of her children now relaxed when their mother was not her usual self. In addition to being attentive to the care she provides to her patients, I also could not help noticing how this nurse greets and acknowledges each person in the facility from maintenance to facility aides, to nurses and management. I ended my day thinking I had just spend the day "within the life journey of the Hospice RN Case Manager." Marjorie provides a "healers touch" with not only the patient and their families but with everyone she encounters.
