Mary serves as one of the pediatric staff RNs on 3ME. Mary shares commitment and passion with her colleagues for our pediatric patients. Mary has taken it upon herself to work diligently toward supporting the needs of this population when they are in need.
At the beginning of last winter, Mary saw that many of the children would not have enough clothing to return home in that would meet their needs. She took it upon herself to work with Warren Middle School and set up a fundraiser with one of the 6th-grade classes. Mary's association with the class brought into the SJMO Foundation over $600.00 in donations for the development of a "Pediatric Clothes Closet" to be started on the Pediatric Unit.
Mary's excitement has generated support from her team of nursing colleagues who also are supporting the clothing drive/closet in an ongoing manner. Mary and her "super shoppers" have been able to create a space for new clothing items on the unit. They have funded their purchases from their monetary donation from the middle school. The dedication to the patients has sent quite a few children home in weather appropriate clothing they may not have had access to, as well as a few additional "sparkles, bows and superheroes".
Mary expects no fanfare or gratitude, this who she is and she'd say this is part of her nursing work and commitment to the children.
