Mary is a very caring, patient and compassionate nurse. What made Mary special to me are the following two acts. First, my husband ordered a dessert and was told he could not have it. She heard this and knew his orders had changed and he could have it. She went to her computer and changed it so he got his dessert. To some people, a dessert is just a dessert, but for someone who had not eaten for two days, that dessert brought a smile to his face. The second thing Mary did was to ask S to do her a favor. She asked him to fold a stack of washcloths. He was glad to help her and did not realize she was using this to give him physical therapy for his hands. He thought he was helping her when actually she was helping him as Parkinson's had really made many chores with his hands very difficult and after surgery even more so. He had a very difficult time and most ended up on the floor but he was using his hands the entire time and received no critical comments, only compassionate praise.
