Collectively, the staff on 6K are honored to recognize Maryann Rosenthal. Maryann is a wonderful nursing director! She is always willing to step in and help her RNs and TPs whenever she can and does so with such a warm smile and caring heart. She has told us many times that patient care is what she truly loves and enjoys! It is evident because she is consistently out on the unit answering call bells and meeting patient needs. Many times she's at the bedside helping a patient to the bathroom, getting them set up for their lunch/dinner or giving them a bath. She'll do anything without being asked and is so hands-on. She'll obtain a patient's blood glucose if a meal tray has arrived or give a patient medication for pain. Maryann truly leads by example. Additionally, she rounds on the patients asking them about their satisfaction with their care. She makes it a point to recognize our staff when patients have noted great care. Furthermore, she has such a sincere approach in providing the 'not so good' feedback as well, if that is ever the case.
Maryann displays a genuine concern for all of her unit staff and it shows in the way she treats us. One of the special things she started doing during a 'baby boom' on 6K to welcome staff back from maternity leave was to print a photo (in color) of our babies and post it at our assigned nursing station. The photos put such smiles on our faces and were a reminder to 'hang in there' during those hectic first few days back at work. She has always taken a personal interest in her staff and we can tell she truly loves us. We really feel like her extended family members. She realized her photos had such a positive impact and now posts not just baby photos but photos of our pets and other children as well. We have a wall of photos on our unit and patients, visitors and colleagues make such positive comments about them.
Maryann excels at making herself available to her staff and is often noted to come in during the weekends, evenings and overnight hours to be present for us all. She is a resource for us 24/7 and always makes time for us, no matter how big or small the issue may be. If a question is asked that she is unsure of, within 24 hours, we will have an answer. Maryann meets with her staff regularly and keeps us informed about any new initiatives or changes in the network. She is one of the reasons we love working on 6K. She encourages us to develop our practice and frequently asks for our feedback on how to improve patient care. She'll look for opportunities to send us to educational offerings and encourages us to obtain our professional certification. In addition, she does everything she can to accommodate the technical partners in nursing school so they can still meet their scheduling needs and attend their classes. We are fortunate to have such an exceptional director. She is passionate about both her 6K team and her patients and this clearly shows through her hands-on approach. She treats everyone with respect and sets a wonderful example on 6K by being such a team player. She is always right there for us and often goes above and beyond to help us through a tough day. Maryann listens and supports her team. She has made every transition at work easier for me from shift changes to figuring out maternity leave (and the emotional stress of returning to work). We have learned a great deal from her, and are proud to work on 6K because of her. Her professionalism is stellar and many of us truly look up to her. Thank you for this opportunity to let you know about such a wonderful nursing director!
