Maryanne has consistently showed compassion for our oncology patients as a member of the rapid response team. A very young Lymphoma patient was actively dying, though she didn't know the patient or family prognosis, what would happen if the patient was intubated, and the unlikelihood the patient would recover. She stayed after the patient was made comfort care, provided emotional support, and answered all of their questions and addressed all concerns. She was able to explain the situation in a way the family understood even though it wasn't technically her responsibility. The patient's family appreciated her time, attention, and caring words during one of the saddest times of their life.
I was honored and happy to stand behind her/alongside her to support the family and help end the patient's suffering. She is a thorough and dedicated provider. She takes responsibility for every patient she sees on our unit. She is an excellent resource for her nurses as well. She is always willing to teach us and give us words of wisdom. I always feel confident my patients will be taken care of if she is covering rapid response, no matter what the outcome may be.
