She was one of the first nurses to encourage me to be brave enough to hold him at three weeks of life.
Honestly, the whole team here at St. Vincent Women's is amazing but Megan is a very special nurse to us. I gave birth to twin boys at 24w2d. We lost our twin A at 32 days of life. Our twin B has had one heck of a journey and we aren't going home any time soon. He has had five surgeries in just 73 days of life. In that time, our morale as parents has seen some of the lowest lows. But, Megan always seems to know what my mama heart needs. She was one of the first nurses to encourage me to be brave enough to hold him at three weeks of life. She stepped in at 41 days and helped me give him his first bath on a particularly hard day. A couple of weeks ago, she told me he's a big boy and can trial clothes after a failed PDA ligation. And today, she brought him back from some testing in the big boy bed he should have gotten last week before his health had once again declined. Her nursing care is top-notch (as are all his nurses honestly) but she always seems to know I need something to happen to boost my spirits. To some, it may just be a bath, an outfit, or a different style bed - all things that would come his way eventually - but she makes them happen without asking when I need it the most. She just knows. And for that, I'm so grateful.
