Melissa introduced herself and said she was the charge nurse and was coming to help start an IV. The other nurse came in with her and you can tell she was still new. They were both friendly and talkative as they searched for a spot to start the IV. Her playful, yet professional manner distracted my friend and lightened the mood from a rough day. The newer nurse who seemed really nervous also seemed to relax as Melissa explained things. They asked permission to let the young nurse try first. He agreed. She missed on that try and seemed discouraged, but Melissa told her not to give up. They asked if she could try one more before Melissa tried and she thankfully got it that time. Both of these nurses did a great job distracting him and making him comfortable.
My friend had not been sleeping well, and when Melissa walked out, he told me how she had given him a bath and shaved him, turned on the TV for some soft music and fixed the room so he was comfortable and was finally able to get some rest. Excellent job on being the angel that you are Melissa!
