Meredith is a model of the Swedish values in many ways. She is patient centered in that she often asks, "What is best for the patient?", and follows through even when it is inconvenient or more work for herself. She is a model of respect caring and compassion not only to our patients but to her co-workers as well and is often the person in our department that initiates a collection for flowers, or gifts, or organizing a department potluck for any occasion.

She is a key team member and staff partner not only as a charge nurse but also as a union steward to help resolve issues and conflicts while keeping a cool head and objectivity. She is always receptive to looking at new ways to improve our processes and if something is not working out, she usually has some helpful suggestions on how to make it work.

Meredith demonstrates leadership in her role as charge nurse, she has this uncanny sense of when to push and when to step back, of when to sweet talk and when to be firm, and of when a situation calls for humor or a firm hand. The surgery department would not be the same without her.
