My Grandfather was admitted with sepsis and was very confused and combative upon admission. His nurse, Merrissa, was so patient, sensitive, and empathetic with his care. As an RN myself, I realized the challenge she faced with starting multiple IV's and comforting a disoriented patient. Merrissa's compassion and care for her patients was apparent, especially while she held my Grandfather's hand and sang softly to him while performing his care.
Merrissa's presence and assurance most definitely comforted and soothed a very confused patient, allowing him to relax and receive the care he needed. Merrissa immediately recognized and respected my Grandfather's history as a war veteran and ensured he was recognized as such. There is not another nurse more deserving of this award and I am so thankful she was the one caring for my Grandfather.
