Mireya has a heart of gold. She shows ICARE daily when she comes to work. She's humble in everything that she does. Recently, I witnessed her coming into work and noticed she brought a cake. I later learned that day that she had brought the cake to help a patient celebrate her son's birthday. This particular patient was DNR and the prognosis was not good. Mireya was Charge the shift prior and had rounded on the patient. While chatting with the patient, Mireya learned that the patient's 13-year-old son's birthday is coming up and the patient expressed sadness about not being able to celebrate with him due to her health condition. When the son came to visit, Mireya gathered the nursing staff to help celebrate the 13-year-old boy's birthday.

This is just a small example of Mireya's kindness. She always offers help even with the patient is not hers. I frequently see her help her colleagues in discharging patients. She is a huge advocate for patients. She also helps precept incoming RN. She leads by example. Mireya was one of our rise to success students. She always does what is best for the patient, even when it is time-consuming. She has blossomed beautifully into the role of a nurse with compassion and knowledge. We are very proud of her! She represents and stands for what the DAISY Award is all about.
