Although my husband and I are forever grateful for every nurse our daughter has received care from, especially those in Pod 2, one nurse has a very special place in our hearts. Nancy was the first nurse to care for our daughter and did so throughout her 90+ day stay in the NICU. She was so caring, treated N as one of her own, and always brought a smile to our faces even during the hardest times. She reminded us to be hopeful and patient with our little one and answered all of my crazy questions with honesty, care, and confidence. She was also the first nurse to make sure I was able to give my daughter a bath and to finally feel like the mother I so desperately wanted to be, even if that meant being in a NICU. Nancy was all-around wonderful. We trusted her with our 1lbs 10oz baby and I couldn't be happier that she was put under Nancy's care for the first hours of her life. She went above and beyond to make sure our girl was safe and comfortable and provided us with all of the information we needed to know about her care. We couldn't be more thankful for her and we will truly miss seeing her every week, even though we are so happy to be going home as a family. A lot of the nurses had said to us that our experience in the NICU would be a distant memory, but I can say confidently that I will always remember all the nurses and doctors very clearly. They saved her and gave us the chance we needed to become a family. It wasn't easy but Nancy and all of the nurses made it that much easier. Thank you, Nancy. You are a true advocate and caregiver, and UMass Memorial NICU and the families you have cared for are so very lucky!
