Nancy was quickly getting an urgent case ready for the OR. Upon meeting the patient, the patient’s wife mentioned his 93 year old mother was in the waiting room. Nancy took the time to help the wife get the mother so that she could be there to be with her only remaining child of 5, prior to his emergency surgery. His mother was able to give him a “good luck kiss” prior to being wheeled away. The mother coded in the surgical waiting room and died.
Thank goodness, Nancy had taken the time to arrange for the patient’s mother to spend a few moments with her son. Nancy went the extra mile for her patient, and it certainly made a profound difference.
