I am a former nurse administrator and implemented a navigator program in 2005 at my hospital. I have high standards for this role. My daughter was diagnosed with breast cancer and within 15 minutes of receiving the call from her primary physician, Nanna Bo called her. And from there, extraordinary began. Through daily calls and in-person visits, Nanna Bo shared her knowledge and expertise in the field - and although very factual, she was always supportive and listened to every concern. Breast cancer is an emotional crisis and when a quick visit to a surgeon was needed, it was arranged. When a quick visit to an oncologist was needed, it was arranged. When an MRI could not be scheduled for 4 weeks, it was done within 2 days. When told that a second breast biopsy was scheduled for 4-5 weeks out, it occurred the same week. When a provider at RMCC did not have a good fit with my daughter, one email got calls and re-scheduling with another mid-level provider. She has helped with leave of absence paperwork, even getting necessary signatures. She has facilitated getting an insurance number to physician/hospital offices when a new company became involved. She has been there 125% for my daughter and has even welcomed me at meetings. So many resources have been shared and/or facilitated and although this is her job, she has provided everything with sincere compassion and understanding.
