We have a long term lung patient on 5West Trauma Unit. The patient's wife has wanted to get a dog to help motivate her husband, but she couldn't find a dog. Naseem Mazlaghani, BSN, RN, RN-BC, talked to her about Pet Finders and together, they went online and found the perfect dog. Naseem continued to communicate with the agency to make arrangements to adopt the dog. The next day was adoption day! They were able to secure the dog that night and she had the dog within 24 hrs.

According to the wife, the purpose was to help motivate her husband to ambulate. The patient wasn't walking at all before this. The first day after getting the dog, the wife came to his room and found her husband next to the dog on the couch. He told his wife he thought the dog was lonely so he walked over to the couch to sit with the dog.
