Most recently one of Natalie's patients had a cardiac procedure with complications. Both the patient and wife were in their eighties. The wife lived alone with her husband. Their only son, who was unable to be here for any length of time, lived in DC. The wife relied on Natalie for a multitude of support which included accompanying the patient to doctor's appointment post discharge, arranging for son's lunch while visiting his father and visited the wife and patient at home. During one home visit, the wife, who was struggling to understand the hospital and physician's invoices, asked Natalie to fill out the correct amount in the checkbook. Obviously, she had a lot of trust in Natalie. During the hospital stay, the wife requested that the husband have a haircut, because he takes great pride in his appearance. Natalie located a barber and the patient had a haircut while still in the hospital. The wife, who still calls Natalie daily for advice and conversation, considers her an "adopted daughter".
