Our mother was diagnosed with a terminal infection after being admitted to the hospital. Nick took great care to make sure she was as comfortable as possible, treating her with great respect and dignity. He was clearly aware that the last sense to go is hearing and he made sure to speak to her when treating her and was careful to not speak about her in her presence. Nick was extraordinarily professional and incredibly caring while treating our mother. In addition, he was sensitive and supportive to the entire family, regularly checking in on us and supporting our family in every way. I don’t know if we would have been able to deal with this difficult situation without Nick’s care and support.
Many of the nurse’s taking care of my mother were outstanding, what sets Nick apart is the proactive way in which he anticipated her needs as well as ours. Nick began by meeting all members of our family learning our names and giving all of us his direct phone #. He demonstrated the utmost respect for my dying mother calling her by her name, talking to her and listening to us. He went beyond his nursing responsibilities by considering her needs and adapting her care accordingly. We could ask Nick anything. If he didn’t know the answer he found out. When we learned that the palliative care team was not available for 48 hours, Nick reassured us that he would work with us to keep mom comfortable. His confidence and compassion was reassuring. Simply put Nick was wonderful and made a real difference.
