Nicole has worked hard to develop a relationship with me as her patient and built trust through her thoughtful and caring actions. She consistently focuses on my goals as a patient and not only advocates for me but also encourages me to advocate for myself.
I would like to nominate Nicole for the DAISY award for her clinical skill and her compassionate care. I am currently an obstetric patient (as well as an RN at the College of Nursing) being treated for gestational diabetes, and this journey has been anything but easy. From being shuffled from provider to provider and having the plan of care change frequently, the one consistent support has been Nicole, the Maternal Fetal Medicine Educator. I have experienced several stressful OB office visits involving complex testing that often resulted in feeling like legitimate concerns were not being addressed. Visits with Nicole, however, have been the complete opposite. Nicole has worked hard to develop a relationship with me as her patient and built trust through her thoughtful and caring actions. She consistently focuses on my goals as a patient and not only advocates for me but also encourages me to advocate for myself. I was particularly touched after I received a call from my OB office stating that Nicole had reached out to them on my behalf, asking them to check on me. I had spent the morning in her office sharing details of my frustrations and concerns, to which Nicole addressed with kindness and compassion. Receiving a phone call from my OB office following my visit with her truly showed me that Nicole cared about my feelings and wanted me to feel supported. She didn't have to reach out to the providers but chose to do so to ensure that excellent patient care was being delivered and that my concerns were being addressed. Nicole's clinical skills and especially her compassionate care exemplify the kind of nurse that patients, families, and staff recognize as an outstanding role model. She is very deserving of the DAISY Award.
