I am delighted to talk about an amazing colleague of mine. I have only known her for about 2 years now, but I have come to see what an asset she is not only for patients and coworkers but for this organization. She has a wealth of knowledge. She spent much of her 40 years in nursing working with babies then taking the leap to work with adults and for a very ill population, which is where she currently works today. Noel is actively involved in many aspects and roles of nursing as she is passionate about best care practices and wants to give exemplary care to patients. She also mentors her coworkers to be the best they can be as care providers. She is an active participant in quality projects, represents on the skin integrity team, and is a champion for SmartMOVES in her department. I met her through SmartMOVES. She constantly helps facilitate education for new hires through the Regional Onboarding Center as well as ancillary staff. She has been a key player in making SmartMOVES a success. There have been several stressful times where I had been desperate for help and challenged with changes and she always came through with a smile, calm demeanor, and reassurance that all will work out, and it always does when she is around.
What also should be known about her is that she consistently maintains a professional and value-driven attitude, is in-tune to the mission at SJP and promotes it among her peers. She embraces the culture not only within her department but with every human contact encounter. She prides herself on being present with all customers despite how challenging the work can be. She is never judgmental or pessimistic; she consistently seeks out resources to solve problems and never settles for the status quo. She is consistently professional. She has a calm and approachable demeanor with all customers. She is respected by her fellow peers and they appreciate her honesty and integrity.
She is the definition of what a holistic nurse is she creates a caring and healing environment as well as sets intention to cultivate sacred acts of nursing to allow for healing. She is an instrument for healing. What is also incredible is a recent story she shared with me and other colleagues. She was on a bus tour with her husband for the day. Shortly after leaving for their destination a woman called out from the back to pull the bus over. The woman then frantically exclaimed there was an emergency with her husband. Noel quickly stepped into action and assessed that the gentleman was not breathing nor had a pulse, she began CPR in the middle of the aisle. The bus continued to SJH&MC where the gentleman could get further medical assistance. Noel continues to do amazing things and, above all, helped this man fight for his life. She is a well deserving nurse and human being and I am privileged to call her my colleague and friend.
