I would like to nominate the nursing staff on the pediatric floor at Oconee Memorial Hospital and Carson Brewer, PA at Blue Ridge Orthopedics for the DAISY Award. Our son broke his leg playing football. Since then, he has undergone four surgeries to install a plate and screws, two infections, and to remove the plate and screws to rule out his body rejecting the hardware.
During the last infection, he required hospitalization and surgery for debridement. My husband and I had gone out of town for the weekend when he started running a fever, and the infection escalated in a hurry. He was hospitalized and scheduled for surgery, all to find out that we couldn’t get a flight back in time to be back for the surgery. The feeling as a mother not to be able to get a flight back to be with your child was devastating. We were reassured by our other children, wonderful friends, Carson, and the staff that everything would be OK, and they would take great care of our baby until we got there. What a TRUE statement. He could not have had better care than what he received from the Pediatric staff and Carson Brewer.
I nominate the Pediatric nurses at Oconee on the Pediatric floor and Carson Brewer for the DAISY Award. They all were truly angels taking care of our son.
