Prisma Health Baptist Progressive Care Unit (PCU) has risen to the challenge. The unit’s HCAHPS baseline scores had consistently been in the ‘red’; meaning the very bottom. This year, PCU’s HCAHPS are consistently climbing and is foreseen as going to hit the targeted benchmarks if this continues. This is because of the team's efforts to ensure that patients and their families receive the kind of care they expected PCU has a diverse group of employees coming from different ethnic backgrounds.
Their teamwork is obvious and they respect and support each other. PCU has the highest Employee Engagement Survey score of 95.45%. In this survey, it is shown that PCU has problems with understaffing (just like the rest of the country). However, During the COVID pandemic crisis, PCU opened to full patient capacity, and each nurse is flexed up to more than the standard nurse-patient ratio to accommodate sick COVID patients that required higher oxygen needs. Despite the exhausting tasks and extra shifts, the PCU staff had a feeling of fulfillment each time a patient is discharged. PCU performs 10 different kinds of required audits monthly. These endeavors are owned by the team members who graciously complete these.
PCU actively participated in the efforts to have Prisma Health Baptist Hospital recognized as a Magnet Hospital by ensuring that every team member is qualified to work in PCU and has completed the required continuing education.
With regards to HARM, PCU has zero CLABSI since November 2019 (as far as I recorded), Zero CAUTI in the last 6 Months, and zero (0) CDiff since November 2020. Recently, PCU is proud to be at the center of the efforts to recognize Prisma Health Baptist as a Certified Stroke Center in the Midlands. Every team member is stroke certified. I believe the PCU has contributed to making Prisma Health Baptist Hospital the best hospital to be when needing healthcare and the best place of employment.
