Peachy noticed what was happening. She immediately spoke with my surgeon and the anesthesiologist as they were close by, and she then administered IV Benadryl.
I should have written this a long time ago, but I want to thank Peachy, the nurse in the NCH Day Surgery Center II, for her amazing job caring for me. She was one of the many great nurses I encountered during my procedure, but her care went above and beyond my expectations. I was very nervous about the surgery, and going into the surgery center alone, due to COVID restrictions, only exemplified this fear. I eventually had the procedure and when I woke up in recovery, I remember feeling instant pain. I felt like I had been hit square in the nose. I remember Peachy was there, and she assessed my pain. I told her my pain level was about an 8. She then spoke with my surgeon and received an order for an IV pain medication. I was still groggy from the anesthesia, but soon after she administered this medication, I started to itch. I remember it started on my arm with the IV in it and spread across my chest to my other arm. Hives. An allergic reaction to the pain medication. I was only partially aware of what was occurring as I had just woken up from anesthesia and then had received this strong pain medication. Peachy noticed what was happening. She immediately spoke with my surgeon and the anesthesiologist as they were close by, and she then administered IV Benadryl. Luckily, the hives began to subside, but I am so thankful for Peachy's close eyes while I was in Phase 1 of recovery. She made me feel safe and made a scary day and situation less scary. Thank you, Peachy!
