After the fact, Peggy showed me such dignified, humane treatment while she helped me remove sweaty, urine-soaked clothing.
I am a patient with a very rare and occasionally violent neuromuscular autoimmune disease. Peggy had been my night nurse for several nights, and one night, I had a very severe episode. Peggy not only quickly responded, but she did so with aggression and efficacy. Many nurses came to the bedside but what I remember most of this 7 hour long attack on my body was her gentle kind voice. I remember the reassuring words. The cool rags, her wiping my tears. I am somebody - a mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and wife. My husband was here, and because of the outstanding care I was receiving, he was able to be just that - my husband. Not a doctor, nurse drill sergeant, just my husband. A 7 hour long episode that did not respond well or fast to any medication is terrifying. I had no power over the thought crossing my mind that this one might be THE ONE. Peggy saw to it that it wasn't. After the fact, Peggy showed me such dignified, humane treatment while she helped me remove sweaty, urine-soaked clothing. While she connected me to a female urinal, she cleaned my private area so kindly and made sure I wasn't embarrassed as she slipped a diaper on me. I wonder if this quiet, kind, insanely gentle human has shown just me, one person, this level of exceptional care with no expectations of accolades. How many others have there been? I'm so grateful, and I truly believe Peggy saved my life. How does one repay that? My family THANKS YOU, Peggy.
