I was in the ITC due to severe six-week migraine with nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and inability to eat or take medications. Phyliss settled me and my parents into a room where she then notified the pharmacy of my arrival. Due to a snowstorm heading our way, the ITC was a tad busy with patients trying to receive their treatment and get home early. I was among those that were early.
After inquiring if I had a port or other intravenous access, Phyliss wrapped my arms in warm blankets and supplied me with hand warmers to make my veins easier to find. After a short wait, she came back and asked me if I had a preferred vein or vein that was easier to find - and she listened. She was able to start my line on the first try with no pain at all. I didn't even feel the stick. She appropriately secured the IV with Coban, knowing I was allergic to adhesives. Prior to, and again as she was administering the ordered medications, she listed them and asked if I had questions. She kindly dimmed the lights as my infusion ran and she let me sleep. During that time, I found out she made fresh coffee for my parents who provided my transportation.
She listened to me, I didn't need to repeat myself. My infusion worked and my migraine was cut in half during the time of my treatment, but if it hadn't worked Phyliss had a plan. She said she would start making calls and track down my doctor for additional orders. Overall she had a great personality. She injected some of her personal life into the conversation yet didn't run the conversation and make it all about her. Phyliss is an amazing and awesome nurse!
