Rachael always cares for her patients showing kindness and caring, but this day, I think she showed what being a nurse is about. Rachael had a really busy day on 2E. She had received a patient from the ER that had 49 orders and had another one that was actively passing away. She took the time with the dying patient and his son. She spoke with his son at length, then she and I and the patient gathered around the patient’s bed, held hands, and prayed for him. It was the most heartfelt prayer I’ve heard in a while, led by this nurse. No one asked her to do it, she was led. After the prayer, the son was at peace. The patient died peacefully. Rachael is a true example of a leader.
