The years of experience and excellent clinical skills of Reana were instrumental in recognizing a stroke in my 48 year old patient three days post-operatively. With the patient having a history of migraines her sickness was noted and intra-abdominal complications were ruled out. During Reana's initial assessment of the patient and after assisting the patient to the bathroom she knew something more was wrong and pressed me urgently for more studies.
Our patient's abnormal neurological exam was quickly recognized by Reana and a CT and MRI of the brain documented two areas of bleeding. This was an unusual case of a young, healthy woman suffering a stroke post-operatively. Physicians and particularly surgeons see their patients for a short amount of time during rounds and count on the nursing staff to recognize changes in patients. The experience of this nurse taking care of our patients cannot be replaced and is invaluable to our patients and physicians. Reana makes us all feel well taken care of.
